Beaches and Resorts close to Neapoli
 
  
 
  Crete is the Island with the most “Blue Flag” beaches in 
  Greece and in Lasithi there are a total of 48 Blue Flags.  We 
  assume that you are staying in Neapoli to escape the usual 
  crowded resorts and enjoy experiencing a quieter life in a 
  traditional Cretan town.  However, a holiday wouldn’t be 
  complete without a relaxing swim and the opportunity to 
  catch some “rays”.  All of the beaches and resorts can be 
  easily reached by car within 30 minutes and if want to visit 
  the town’s beaches of Agios Nikolaos you catch the local bus 
  from the square if you prefer…This is not an exhaustive list 
  and suggest you ask Google for more info.….
  If you are hankering after a busy, bustling place to visit then 
  all of the big resorts like Malia, Hersonissos, Stalis, etc. etc. 
  are all on the main bus route from Neapoli to Heraklion or 
  go by car but be aware that parking can be an issue….
 
 
  Agios Nikolaos boasts several organised beaches all within 
  easy walking distance and set on The Bay of Mirabello and 
  can all be readily found on Google Maps…
 
 
  Ammoudi Beach - just 1km north of Agios 
  Nikolaos city centre, it’s a small, sandy beach with 
  shallow water and set in a well protected bay.  A 
  very popular beach for the locals…
 
 
  Kitroplatia Beach - a small sandy beach but does 
  have  pebbles in some places.  Shallow water and 
  makes it popular for children.  Has many places to 
  eat and drink nearby….
 
 
  Ammos Beach -  just 500m south of the city 
  centre, a long sandy beach starting near to the 
  Marina.  Organised with sunbeds and umbrellas 
  with shallow calm water with many places to 
  enjoy a drink or meal.
 
 
  Ammoudara - 6km southeast of Agios Nikolaos 
  on the old road to Sitia. A well developed area with 
  several hotels,  tavernas and Kantina on the beach. 
  A nice sandy beach with light blue watercolor and 
  fairly calm water.
 
 
  Almyros Beach -  situated 2.5 km from the centre 
  but is very popular and tends to get very busy.  
  Shallow waters, a long sandy beach with 
  organised beds and umbrellas.  The Almiros river 
  runs into the sea here and there is a small 
  wetland to explore...
 
 
  Voulisma  Beach -  also known as “Golden Beach” 
  and is around 12km east of Agios Nikolaos 
  situated in Istron.   Features on a lot of postcards 
  but it is a beautiful sandy beach with amazing 
  turquoise waters..be aware it is very popular and 
  busy.
 
 
  Milatos -  A small village with quiet beaches and small 
  harbour.  There are several places to eat and drink, 
  easy to get to from Neapoli and is around 12km. away.  
  There is a lovely drive through the village of Latsida and 
  over the mountain which has some amazing views over 
  the bay as you come over the mountain into Milatos.

  Sisi -   Easy drive from Neapoli of around 14km. Sisi is  a 
  lovely, traditional and picturesque seaside village with 
  some great  tavernas and places to drink.  Many places 
  are set around the seafront and the natural harbour but 
  explore the area as there are some great tavernas here.  
  The harbour offers a safe to place to swim  as it is 
  protected from the sea.

  Potamos Beach - Easy drive from Neapoli of around 
  14.5km. A lovely sandy beach that has the river flowing 
  into the sea.  It is well organised and has a small 
  Kantina on the beach and the Taverna Kalyva is well 
  worth a visit for a meal or drink.  There is a large 
  parking area and the beach has Tamarind trees at the 
  back of the beach offering shade.  Please be aware 
  that the sea can be quite choppy here so please take 
  necessary precautions.
