A kafenion typically serves various types of Greek coffee and
frappé, as well as beer, retsina, raki and ouzo. Most kafenia
provide meze or free snacks with a beer or Raki as they rarely
serve full meals. Kafenia were traditionally family-run businesses
and furnished simply. The walls are often whitewashed. Kafenia
often serve as social centers where people can socialize after work
or play a game of cards. At one time, the kafenion was a place
where women were not welcome but now they are open to
everyone.
Many of these traditional cafes are in decline and Neapoli is no
exception….we have been reliably informed that were once more
than 50 in the Town and we are now left with just these two; so go
along and give them your support….
